UPEI’s Access to Information and Protection of Personal Information and Privacy policy addresses the protection of personal information as well as the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by the University. Any personal information you do provide is managed and collected in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) Act. This means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected, and that you have a right of access to the collected information. Some UPEI websites may collect more information than is described here and will have additional privacy notices. Where applicable, please be sure to read these privacy notices.

Voluntary provision of information in forms

UPEI makes every effort to protect all information voluntarily submitted through website forms, and all data is encrypted in transit. UPEI will not be responsible for any damages you or any third party may experience by submitting confidential information you choose to share with UPEI through the Internet or for any errors in submitted information. If you have concerns with transferring data over the Internet, you may contact the office which has requested it for alternative methods.

Information collected is kept only for the length of time necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected. Should you choose to provide personal information via upei.ca webforms, it will be used to respond to your request and as permitted in accordance with the FOIPP Act and all applicable UPEI policies and procedures, including the Access to Information and Protection of Personal Information and Privacy policy.

The personal information requested on "Need more information about <this program>?" forms is collected under the authority of Section 31(c) of the PEI Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and will be protected under Part 2 of that Act. UPEI collects, creates and maintains this information for the purposes of admission, registration and other activities directly related to its education programs. This form collects birthdates as a method for creating unique records for prospective students and queries users’ Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, which are used to approximate geographic location (country, region, and city).

Cookies

upei.ca may transfer a small “cookie” file to your device through browser access. Cookies identify your browser and allow provision of personalized information on your future visits to our websites. Editing personal browser settings will deny cookies or provide warnings when cookies are distributed.

upei.ca cookies do not gather any personal information (e.g., name, email address, telephone number).

Google Analytics

upei.ca uses Google Analytics to provides anonymized data about the use of the website. Information provided by Google Analytics is used by UPEI’s Marketing and Production unit for statistical purposes and to ensure our website content and functionality meets the needs of all visitors. Please refer to Google’s privacy and terms.

Remarketing

upei.ca uses remarketing tools so that we may monitor, track, and measure advertising and marketing campaigns. Third-party cookies and pixel tags from Meta properties (Facebook and Instagram), Twitter, TikTok, and Google Ads attached to our website advertising and marketing campaigns (including email and social media campaigns) may be used in connection with some upei.ca site pages to follow and log the actions of visitors and email recipients, quantify the reach and effectiveness of marketing campaigns and compile statistics about site usage.
